Volkswagen has definitely had their fair shares of issues in recent times, but they still managed to be the top selling brand in 2016 which is very impressive.  VW is one of those commuter car companies that makes normal cars for normal people (with some obvious exceptions).  But they do this very well, and that is why people buy so many VW’s.  German engineering for Japanese prices.

Another thing VW has going for them is the fact that they are an automotive power house. Volkswagen owns Audi, Porsche, Lamborghini, Bentley and Bugatti.  With that sort of portfolio it’s easy to see why VW continues to good financially even after such a huge scandal.

But anyway, we’re going to look at the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan.  The SUV is currently in its second generation, and does carry some weight.  The Tiguans previous generation was notorious for being pretty unreliable, so that’s the big hope for this new 2018 model.  Other than that, the Tiguan does seem to really take the part of a budget Audi Q5 or Q3 which isn’t a bad thing at all.

Pictured here is the 2018 VW Tiguan R-Line.  The more sporty rendition of the Tiguan.  I think it looks very sharp and again, like a budget Audi.  There are a few different similarities that can tie this Tiguan to the Golf line, like the side mirrors, the stance and some of the aesthetics.

Here is a more standard configuration of the Tiguan, which is still relatively nice.  There is much more of a reclusive vibe to this vehicle, kind of like the old Volvo-accountant look.  The front fascia is plainly laid out and has a face that looks like it’s wearing a pair of Euro modern glasses.  The type of glasses Hollywood actors wear.

The rear of the Tiguan is probably my favorite view.  It is very well put together, and I bet people wouldn’t know the difference if you removed the VW badge and replaced it with the Audi badge.  Mainly the tail lights look like VW took a lot from their sister company Audi on a design front.  It is a very up-to-date and luxurious look for the peoples car.

Overall this is a great look for the Tiguan and VW going forward.  Personally I love a sharp, sophisticated SUV and the Tiguan really fits the bill.

The Interior:

There’s a bit more of that Audi DNA inside the 2018 VW Tiguan’s interior.  You can see the bit of borrowed styling cues in the air vents, how the gauge cluster doubles as a navigation screen and the HUD you can see above the steering wheel.  Usually I don’t like copying, but these sort of features make the Tiguan appear more upscale which is a good thing.  Everything else about the interior of the Tiguan is pretty simple and reclusive, like the exterior.  The interior isn’t trying to impress anyone and is functional and practical.  Which is just what Volkswagen buyers want (or need).  VW’s interiors never blew anyone’s socks off, but that’s the way they like it.  The Tiguan will seat five adults comfortably, with the option of a third row to accommodate seven passengers.

Pricing for the 2018 Tiguan

The 2018 Tiguan is set to see a small price increase over the previous 2017 model. The price increase in likely due to some serious design changes including an overall length increase and added third-row seat capability. Volkswagen has announced that the starting MSRP for the 2018 Tiguan in FWD will be $25,345 while the base AWD drive option will start a little higher at $26,645. There are currently no details regarding pricing on the three other available trim levels.
